Cyber Acoustics Mic-48 Desktop Uni-Directional Microphone

I got this mic because I needed a better mic for Yahoo phone in/out (internet phone calls,) and I was using a homemade mic consisting of a broken headphones where I was talking out of the left side of the phones which worked, but I was receiving many complaints that I sounded like I were talking through a pillow.

I got the mic and people told me I definitely sounded better than with the makeshift headphone mic I was using before. I also used the mic a couple of times in conjunction with my new web cam and XP movie maker and upon playback of the video, I discovered that the voice portion of the video sounds just fine with no distortion. The mic seems to have decent pick up from over a foot away and I liked the swivel-base that allows you to move the mic around to the desired position or remove the mic and use it as a Bob Barker style karaoke mic for handheld use.

I would recommend tinkering in your control panel's sound and voice recording settings to optimize the mic level. With my audio hardware I have an advanced setting that allows you to tick a box for a +20db voice boost. When I had this setting ticked I did receive feedback from the speakers like you might with a PA system when the mic was placed close to my speakers, so this week I have that box unticked, but that setting might be useful if you were recording from across the room to get extra boom out of it.

I am using this with a 10-foot 3.5mm extension cord that plugs into my audio card's mic or line out jack, that I also use for my headphones late at night so it is difficult to determine if there is any signal loss due to the length of the cord. I don't have a basis for comparison against a more expensive mic to tell you if there is a significant difference in sound quality but let me ask you this...If someone were selling the same mic for 0 would you automatically assume it's higher quality and opt for the more expensive mic due to the fact that you equate more money paid with a higher quality product? My experience with these things has shown that paying more does not always equal a better product. Sometimes a name brand company or mail order catalogue will slap their name on the cheapest of cheap products then go ahead and mark it up for many times what it is actually worth, but for placing internet phone calls and making the occasional instructional video to post to the internet I am happy with the product and happy with the price! I purchased the 6 LED web cam/mic combo for under (shipping included,) and I went from having plain text on my social networking page to my own uploaded videos of myself!

Works as expected. Well worth the price but packaging issues.
This microphone works very well for the price. I use it to do voice overs for PowerPoint slides as part of delivering online classes. The audio quality is fine for talking voice. It cuts off the low end but that is expected for a low-cost microphone and in my application an advantage in that it makes my voice a bit clearer.

The only issue is the packaging was a hanging plastic bag which I feel works fine for display in a store but causes problems if shipped individually without additional package protection. I my case, mine arrived with the tip broken off which I feel was a result of shipment damage. I was able to super-glue the end back on but the repair is fairly weak.

Overall, a very good mike for the money.

It's cheap. It's flimsy. It works amazingly!!!
As I said in the title, this thing is pretty flimsy. Don't get me wrong, it looks like it could withstand plenty of use, it's just not very sturdy plastic. As for set up and use, set up is simple and use is pretty simple as long as you're familiar with video-making, audio-recording, and that type of stuff. You can use pretty much anything to capture the audio, it doesn't come with or require it's own program. And finally, for the quality. I have to say, I was blown away by the quality this flimsy little thing produced when I played back a recording. The only down side is that you do kinda need to keep your face close to the thing, and it does pick up some background noise (but it's nothing Audacity can't easily edit out!). I would normally rate this 4 stars, but I was just so surprised by the sound quality that I had to give it 5! Definite buy!

    Works just fine!
This product worked just as good as they said it would and you just cannot beat it for the price!

This microphone is a good deal
This mic is a very good mic for what I use it for. The price was excellant, and the seller got it to me very fast. I bought it from Amazon.com, and their service was as usual, Outstanding!
