Samsung XL-2370-1 23-Inch Widescreen LED LCD Monitor

Samsung XL-2370-1 23-Inch Widescreen LED LCD Monitor

Since most reviews have covered the basics of this monitor, I do not want to rehash the same info. This is what you need to know if you are an EXTREMELY fussy buyer, like me:

Gray-Scale:
While the gray-scale is very good, it CLIPS all data below and above standard RGB profiles. If you need an extremely accurate monitor for photo or video editing, move on, you will not be satisfied. However, if you can get away with a monitor that is "good enough", then you should seriously consider the 2370.

Color Profile Setup:
I initially started setup of the monitor with DVE Blu-ray 1080p using PowerDVD Ultra Mark II, which leads back to the gray-scale. While the monitor performs well, it does have some artifacting and skews to red on the scale. It took considerable tweaking of the OSD, which is very good, to START to CALIBRATE the monitor. However, I also needed to run Samsung's freely available "NATURAL COLOR PRO" app to get a correct blue hue, and tame those reds.

Brightness and Contrast:
Unfortunately, the brightness control does not control the gray-scale. It controls the AMPLITUDE. This is the primary reason why the monitor is so difficult to calibrate. Also, this is an extremely bright monitor, and you will be spending time trying to find the correct brightness vs. contrast ratio without affecting true blacks.

Bottom Line:
I wanted a solid monitor for gaming, non-professional photo and video editing, and productivity work. Overall, it is highly unlikely you will find a monitor this decent at this price point. If you need better color accuracy and a near-perfect gray-scale, you will want to look at the Dell Ultrasharp 24" IPS; however, the monitor is 0. I am waiting for wider availability of 120Hz monitors, so this is an excellent choice to hold me until then.

I hope that helps the "picky" customers, like me, to determine if this monitor suits your needs. One final note, I am using an EVGA 470 GTX card, and I found that DVI-D was the best way to go. Depending on your card, your mileage will vary.

Great monitor, terrible warranty
I've had this monitor for almost 6 months and love it. Unfortunately, a dead pixel showed up last week, so I called Samsung to get the panel replaced (-1 star for a dead pixel before the 6-month period). They will only replace an LCD panel if it has 17 or more dead pixels (-1 star for bad policy). I guess I'll just have to wait for the infection to spread, and hopefully i'll be able to get it fixed before the warranty runs out...

Great LCD
Easy to setup. Alot better then my previous Samsung LCD. Nice colors and easier on the eyes. Doesn't have the lighting around the edge like my previous monitor. HDMI a plus. Nice slim design.

Slick panel and great upgrade for my aging 226BW
After a week's use, I find this model to have been a very smart purchase. Setup from stand/panel assembly to image calibration was pretty quick and simple. The image is superb, and thankfully, no dead pixels. With a bit of settings tweaking, I have deep blacks and bright colors/whites living happily side by side. Of course, no ghosting and no input lag = awesome for my twitch gaming needs. The only downsides are minor. The inner bevel at the edges of the screen are very reflective, so images at the extreme edges (right/left mostly, but also at the top edge depending on your viewing angle/height) of the panel are mirrored on the bevel. It bothered me at first, but now I just ignore it. These bevels should have been given a matte of some sort to prevent this. The other detail is the power/menu "buttons" which are sensors rather than actual buttons. This works, but isn't extremely accurate in the sense that I often have to do a little extra "touching" of the spot to get it to respond. Here again, I've already come to ignore it. The provided MagicTune software to allow image tweaking via software rather than the somewhat awkward sensor buttons works, however, on my XP machine, crashes every time I try to reboot. Once calibrated to my general likings, however, I just uninstalled it. On my particular panel, I do have one backbleed hotspot at the lower center. It isn't anything worse than I've seen on most other monitors of this grade, and fortunately, it's only noticeable when the region of the screen near it is pretty much full black (though this will be the case with movies that don't fill the vertical area of the screen--i.e. those with top/bottom letterbox strips--it hasn't bothered me, but I view movies from a lower angle than I view the panel during work or gaming, so it tends to disappear). Overall, a solid product with far more pros than cons. While not perfect in all respects, it gets 5 stars (though if I could, I'd go with 4.5 just to acknowledge the minor quibbles).

This was very easy put together and install. As soon as I plugged it into my laptop it worked.
I like the dark rose color and the touch buttons. The picture is very colorful, crisp and clear. It would have been nice if it had an adjustable stand for height.

samsung monitor
While the Samsung P2050 LCD monitor is awesome as far as color goes, the reason I didn't give it a top rating of 5 stars is that you can not adjust the level or angle of it. The base and stem are fixed in one position. Right now I have a phone book under the base of the monitor to raise it up; I am also in the process of building an adjustable "base" for this thing. So even though the price was good, it is still costing me a little more money to make it fit me!

Samsung BD-C5500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

I've been using this player for three months now. Overall, I'm pleased. The setup was pretty straightforward and software updates installed without a problem. The network connection is hardwired to my router. DVD and Blu-Ray quality is very good and Internet streaming from my Netflix account is actually better quality than it was when I hooked up my Vista based laptop using the same HDMI connection. There are a few drawbacks. First, is that the machine will occasionally hang when trying to access a Netflix movie. This is probably due to my Internet connection (10Mbps/5Mbps) being congested, but the problem is that there is no way to back out of the connection screen without turning the player completely off and then back on. Very occasionally, the player will reconnect during playback and throttle down to a lower quality. Again, probably due to Internet congestion. Luckily that does not happen very often.

Second, the machine will hang if I insert a DVD before it is completely booted. The DVD will start to play and get as far as the FBI warning screen or so and then stop. The remote becomes unresponsive. Again, the only way around is to remove the DVD, restart the machine and insert the DVD after it is completely started and the main menu is onscreen. I've learned to let the machine boot before inserting the disk.

Third, when accessing Netflix, I will sometimes have to re-activate the machine. I don't know if this is a glitch on the Samsung or at Netflix, but it means running to my computer to re-enter the activation code. Slightly annoying. This has happened maybe four times in three months.

Finally, navigating the net is agonizing using the remote and the simulated cell phone keypad. You have to use the arrow keys to navigate the onscreen keypad and then tap for the right letter. Maybe someone who does a lot of texting won't mind this, but I found it to be excruciating and it limits the usefulness of other features like YouTube videos. Searching for a favorite video is just too slow and inaccurate. The ability to attach a Bluetooth keyboard would be a great feature. Maybe that's reserved for a higher price point.

I use this machine almost exclusively for DVDs and to access my Netflix instant queue and for that it works very well, if you follow its protocols. For the price, I'm pleased not to have to hook up my laptop and to have a remote to pause/play instant movies.

Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM 24\

I've had this monitor for just under 6 months now. The size is great for 1080p, anything smaller on the diagonal and the dot pitch would be too small for me to view comfortably without leaning in (I wear contacts usually, glasses occasionally, basic nearsightedness @ -2.00, nothing special). Note that 1080p is 1920x1080. Some tags associated with this listing incorrectly say 1920x1200. The viewing angle is pretty good and the sweet spot zone is large enough that sitting a little off-center isn't bothersome, but the tilt adjustment of forward/backward is really only backward. My desk is built for computers, and the monitor stand is built-in and slightly high, so I have to sit up pretty straight or I'll start to notice it if I've slumped enough. My previous monitor would tilt forward a couple degrees, this one not at all.

The image on the monitor is nice and crisp, good contrast and saturation. I'm plenty happy with the quality of photos, video, and artwork displayed on this unit. It handles resolution changes really well considering it's an LCD and not a CRT (my previous monitor type). Note that this is a high-res unit, so built-in graphics on your motherboard will work fine, but video and animation and games may cause stuttering or slowness if you don't dial back the resolution.

I recommend using an add-in graphics card with 512MB memory minimum. For ATI a 5450 GPU minimum, about -60, which should give you great video and light gaming capability, though a 5670 or higher is recommended if you do more gaming, which runs about -100. If you're serious about trying games on this monitor, go for a 5770 (0), or if your case/power will accommodate, a 5830 or 5850 (both over 0) will play games very well. On the NVidia side, a GeForce GT 240 at about -80 is a good starting point, or a 9600/9800 GT, or even a GTS 250 works, too, for just a little more. A jump to the GTX 240/260 range puts you over 0 and should do games well, but again you need to consider case size and power. [...] are all reasonable review sites where you can get all the gory details, though I like [...] best and it's daily "Shortbread" section always links you to everyone else's reviews, so it's a good starting point.

My one beef with the design of the 2494HM is the "buttons". They're essentially touch-sensitive spots on the bezel, so you can't feel them. If it's dark enough, you can't see them, either. By default the input select was on auto, and every time I booted my computer it would cycle through the settings. I eventually figured out what the setting was that would "lock" it onto my DVI connection, but it drove me nuts before that, because I'd have to figure out exactly where the invisible "button" was in order to switch inputs if it got it wrong. I still like to tweak settings now and then, and the lack of real buttons makes it difficult.

For the price I paid, overall I'm happy. I would have liked to have been very happy, but I'll settle for happy any day. This monitor should be on your short list if you are looking for this size/resolution and it's in your price range, and you don't think you'll be adjusting settings a lot.

Note: there are two different entries in Amazon's listings for the 2494HM if you do a search, and Amazon sells on both of them, for different prices. In other words, it's not a stray listing for a non-Amazon merchant. They were added at different times, one in 2008 and the other in 2009. I don't see anything to indicate they are different in any way, so I suggest going for the cheaper of the two.

Mostly good... except...
The Bad:

1. The soft-touch menu "buttons" are a pain. They activate when you lightly brush up against them (e.g. while reaching to adjust a speaker next to the screen). Also the labeling of the buttons is unreadable unless the lighting in the room is just right (dark gray ink on black plastic)... for a product that is measured by "contrast ratios", how did they ever get this wrong?!

2. Although the horizontal viewing angle is wide, the vertical is very tight. Since the screen is relatively big when you sit two feet from it, you can actually notice the difference in color/brightness in different regions when you move your head up or down a few inches. It is most noticeable when viewing pictures; not so much when dealing with text.

3. They take several seconds to wake up from sleep mode (Mac only?). Maybe 4 or 5 seconds. Not terribly annoying, unless you're in a hurry.

The Good: (Not including the obvious things everyone likes)

1. I really like the ability to swivel the screen 90-degrees, to make it tall rather than wide. On my Mac, this is handled seamlessly. Since I have two of these monitors, I have one set up vertically, which is great for editing text docs, or for positioning long toolbars/inspectors when working on the horizontal screen. Also great when viewing a portrait picture, vs. a landscape. You can view the picture without any lost real estate.

Overall: I think I got a good deal for my purposes (computer programming and some graphics/web design)

No dead pixels!
No dead pixels, thank you Amazon! The colors no are the best (normal in TN panels), but very fast for games! I am happy with Samsung.

NICE MONITOR
I took a lot of time to research a good all purpose monitor and found this was a good bang for the buck..nice pix, no dead pixels and very versatile in horizontal and vertical positions... ive read a lot of people complain about the touch controls.. get over it already, this has not been a problem whatsoever. if youre looking for them in pitch black then yes , its an issue.....yes its tn, probably not as good as an apple but not as expensive either, still a nice picture and good for all overall use.. horizontal viewing angle ok. about the same as all monitors in its class..price- well i dont think its worth over 410 or 420, its been out for a while and if you pick it up for 400 or less youre getting a deal..i would buy another and probably will if they go below 400...hope this is helpfull

This is one amazing monitor!
I just bought a new gaming PC and wanted the right monitor to complement the system. I was happy with 20" Apple Cinema display, but wanted something bigger. After doing some research, I came across this particular monitor.

I was comparing this monitor with Samsung's 245T and was surprised to find out that this monitor outperformed the 245T and was roughly half the price. I use this monitor for gaming only and so far it's amazing.

I ran into some stuck pixel problems with my cinema display when I first bought it and was worried that I might face the same issues with the Samsung. Well, let me tell you that this screen is flawless; it is brighter and more vivid than my cinema display.

I also feared that this monitor would feel a bit cheap. This is simply not the case. The monitor is sturdy and well made. I literally sat in awe when I set up the screen for the first time. I still can't believe how incredible this screen is. I am very picky when it comes to image quality and I must say, I would recommend this screen to any gamer out there.

Samsung S2 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive HXMU050DA/G22 (Piano Black)

My lovely new "local disc", as my computer is calling it, is all formatted, partitioned, and humming along quietly and efficiently next to my keyboard, and I couldn't be happier with it. My computer is five years old and this little gadget connected, signaled its readiness, and was at my service within about ten seconds of plugging in the USB connection. The first day I had it, I moved about 100 gigs of materials to it and organized everything just the way I like it.

The software that comes with it is interesting - a "secret space" for storing files you don't want available to other users, and a backup system that works quietly in the background and does regular saves on a schedule that the owner chooses. That's wonderful for people like me who forget to back their stuff up, but need to.

It has a "quick format" function that's very handy, and is easy to partition. I would suggest doing those two things, formatting and partitioning, first of all once it's connected. That way you won't run into the arbitrary partition I did, and be stopped at about 30 gigs and forced to empty the disc of all the materials you just loaded onto it, and go back and do the partitioning. Once that's done, it's a breeze. (I found step-by-step instructions for partitioning by Googling "How do I partition my external hard drive".)

I notice the product is now listed for more than I paid, so I happened to hit it on a good Amazon discount day, which makes me even happier. And free shipping! Thank you, Amazon!

Quick review
I purchased this portable HD after reviewing many others. My long search has paid off finally when i started using this product and came to appreciate its advantages. With its short USB cable it is so simple to hook up and operate right out of the box no setup or installation required. The compact size allow me to keep it in my small briefcase all the time, the huge storage capacity of 320gb is more than i need to store all my family pictures, hundreds of electronic books, a library of short movies plus all software downloads from the internet and still have room for more to come. The quality of the device is superb, reliable and the speed of transferring files is high enough for me to not feel discomfort of long waiting, also the operating temperature does not get high after extended periods of usage. I don't have any complaints using this products after one month of purchase so far.

completely meets my expectations
I have had it for only three weeks now, but so far it works just fine. I need it to store data that won't fit on the hard drive. It saves and retrieves data without problems. Just plug in the USB cable and you are ready to go. The included cover comes in handy if you really use it as a portable device.
Minor issues: Apparently it has a capacity of "only" 465GB, not 500. Sometimes when I plug it in it asks if I want to run the Samsung software, which I don't - so that costs one extra click. Also, when you save something to the device or open something from it, it seems to take a fraction of a second longer than if you were working on the hard drive of your computer. But these are non-issues.

If it keeps working like this, I am perfectly happy with this purchase.

Works great with Mac
I bought the 250 GB version of this drive. It is connected to my MAC-mini as my "Time Machine", was a snap to set-up in this mode, and has worked flawlessly for over 5 months. Recommended!

I bought three of these and only had one partially dead pixel on one of them, that's not very noticeable. They're bright, provide good contrast, and good color. The pixel density at 1920X1080 provides a very sharp picture. I'm very happy with these monitors, particularly for the price.

21.5 not 22"
I bought this monitor for my eyefinity setup. I thought its a 22" but its only a 21.5" monitor.
But the monitor still looks good and the clearity is superb. Bought me another 22" and use this as
a monitor for my other pc.

Decent, but not the best in class.
This is my third Samsung PC LCD, owning both a 22" 1680x1050 226BW for over three years and a 25.5" 1920x1200 T260 for a year (had a bad 22" and got it replaced - the 226BW reviewed here January 19, 2008). Anyway, I bought the B2230 for a 3-LCD gaming rig setup. If it could be done over, I'd have bought another monitor, specifically the P2250, which I'll buy for the 3rd LCD to complete the setup.

First, the pixel pitch on this monitor is about the same as the 22" and 25.5" (.28xxx mm - the P2250 has .24xxx pixel density - more pixel density = better display quality). I was hoping for a little sharper clarity for a 1920x1080 resolution monitor in this size, especially considering the 25.5" shares nearly the same pixel density over 4" more of screen real estate. The 25.5" is as clear as the 21.5" in website text and the holy grail of display quality for me: cockpit instrument readability in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. There is of course a sharpness option on the menu, but it just doesn't help much for what I was expecting.

With that said, it's still an okay monitor for the average user. It's a few pounds lighter than the 22" and runs very cool. The touch menu options and feel are pretty standard for Samsung. People new to Samsung's PC LCDs may find the front bezel touch "buttons" awkward and hard to work with, but it sure beats trying to deal with Samsung's buttons on the side and bottom of my other two monitors blindly. Similarly, the gloss bezel may be a put-off to some and definitely is a dust and fingerprint magnet. But I like the gloss - it appears to be the norm these days from manufacturers and matches everything else in the house TV/monitor wise. No red "touch of color" here to match the gorgeous T260, but it still looks good on the desk. The mount does allow for tilt, but as so typical in this price range, no height adjustment.

Finally, the brightness of this monitor needs to be toned way down out of the box, to less than 60%. You will be spending some time calibrating this to your liking. All in all for those who want a run-of-the-mill 21.5" LCD that's 1080p capable, this is an acceptable monitor, but as mentioned, not recommended for those who appreciate higher pixel density output. Think of this LCD as the Enterprise rental Buick of 1080p Samsung monitors: it serves the purpose and grandpa thinks it's awesome, but not something to brag about to friends.

Samsung N120-12GW 10.1-Inch White Netbook - 6 Cell Battery

I've used this model for six months now both as a personal and student computer, and it's excellent for any kind of light use. The keyboard is not quite full-sized, but it's close enough that I adjusted easily and with a minimal loss in typing speed. The microphone is quite usable for voice chat, though it's located next to the keyboard so ambient mouse- and keyboard-use noises abound. The speakers are useless for music, as would be expected for any netbook, though they transmit voice just fine. The six-cell battery it shipped with currently gives me five hours in Ubuntu Linux on a full charge after aforementioned six months of daily use. The screen is quite glossy, and though I don't find that a major issue, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone wanting to use it outdoors. The RAM is probably the weak link in its hardware, Firefox being the memory hog it is, so expect a little clunkiness if you're multitasking. I'd recommend this to anyone who needs a cheap and portable computer, or really anyone who doesn't need to do anything hardware-intensive.

screen scambles
N120 (get the Blue version for better battery), has OK speakers, very good keyboard, and would be just about perfect for what it is--under powered netbook-- if the display did not scramble after a few months. Cause might be a loose cable. Sent it back for repair through UPS. By the way, Samsung answers the phone when you call. Not sure how N120 works with WIN 7. WIN XP seems unstable. Matte screen would be better, but you get used to this one. I use it more than full size laptop.

I love this netbook :D
I just received my n120 today and i couldn't be happier. it just looks fantastic (i have the white one) and does everything i need it to do really well. surfing the net, watching youtube, no troubles at all. The keyboard is fantastic (i am typing on it right now and typing just as fast as i do on any other keyboard! :) ). If the keyboard is an important thing for you, you will love this netbook. I read a lot of people say the screen is too glossy, but i didn't even notice that, its fine to me. Its nice and portable, the wireless works great. There is not a single thing i can complain about this computer! its so good and im glad i bought it! highly, highly recommended :)

excellent shipping condition
I got the notebook on time, exactly as it was described and even more than I've expected to find. the machine got kind of slow after I updated/uploaded some software, but it has nothing to do with its primary condition that it arrived in. excellent seller, highly recommended !! thank u !

Samsung NC10-13GB 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life

I've had this netbook for five months now and I absolutely love it. I got the 2GB RAM expansion and it was easy to buy and install. The keyboard is almost full sized and I was able to type at full speed after just a couple uses. For work purposes (internet, email, video, etc.) it is absolutely perfect. Weighs practically nothing, the battery life is staggering (at least five hours), and the screen, though a little small, looks great. Every time I pull this thing out some random person compliments me on it.

I haven't had a single issue with it other than making some power saving adjustments so that it's not constantly going to sleep or dimming the screen. Video works great, though you should probably wait for HD videos to completely load before playing or they will chug a little. Pushing video into full screen makes you feel like you have a mini theatre.

The only real downside is that the speaker is awful. And I mean awful. It's so quiet you pretty much have to use headphones with it. Also the screen size means you have to do a lot of scrolling. Otherwise, I can't say enough good things about it. We've retired our full size laptops at home. It's just so convenient and the battery lasts so long the advantages of a big screen do not outweigh the disadvantages.

I'm constantly staggered by the fact that I paid so little for it. It's worth its weight in gold.

Sticking Button
The down arrow button sticks in the down position when used and I have to lift it back out with a nail file.

Couldn't ask for more
We've used this computer while traveling to Japan and Singapore and it works great. I've carried it on my motorcycle and it always works, despite the harsh conditions I've subjected it to. Very light and easy to use.

Perfect Netbook
Purchased for internet, email and word processing. This netbook is perfect. I was using it within minutes of taking it out of the box. I recommend it highly.
