Pros: This is light weight laptop case. Even if you don't have a laptop its still useful. You could carry your portfolio or something else of importance. Folders or papers, not recommending books and binders. Love the material and design. Good size side pouch can hold things as long as pencils horizontally or vertically.

Cons: Not enough room sometimes when you need that extra stuff. Say if you want to bring the electric adapter for your laptop it won't exactly fit perfectly. You have to pick and choose items you will need to carry (which could be a good thing) meaning you can't carry your notepad, your laptop, and your folders all together. You need to choose either between one or two.

Maxxum Swiss Gear by Wenger Notebook Backpack Blue

Before purchasing this backpack through Amazon, I compared other reviews and found this product, listed at a higher price, in a brick and mortar store.
I wanted to be sure that this backpack was suitable for my Lenovo X61 tablet PC.

I have now been using the Maxxum Swiss Gear Notebook Backpack for 10 months, and I am very pleased with it.

I carry my tablet PC, with accessories and other school materials, for teaching math at a community college. My tablet fits comfortably in the laptop compartment, either by itself or attached to the Lenovo ultrabase. Furthermore, I purchased an 8-cell battery, which extends the depth of the tablet by an inch, and this presented no problem.

The numerous pockets, of different sizes, are convenient for storing laptop accessories and other small school supplies. I like the exterior pocket, which can hold an umbrella or any other item which must be stuffed quickly in the pack without having to unzip a pocket. Also, a slightly damp umbrella will not disturb any item inside the pack.

The backpack is comfortable to wear, as I walk around campus, up and down stairs.
In the classroom, I find it easy to access and repack computer accessories, notebooks, and other school items from the backpack. The built-in base pad keeps the pack upright, whether fully or partially loaded.

YUKON from Wenger Single Gusset Computer Bag. Fits most 17\

Yes, you could find better cases online, but you're probably looking at 2 or 300+ dollars, especially if you want leather which this case does not have.

This is the second of these that I have purchased. there just aren't enough 17" laptop cases available. I like this one, but it's not glamourous. It protects the computer well but weighs a ton, especially with a huge laptop and accessories. It also can fit some books and has excellent pockets.

I also find the shoulder strap to be adequate.

This case is extremely well made.

best ever
The Yukon computer bag is a grate bag, each one in my family now has one except me I have a smaller one by Wenger, but I wish that I would have seen this one, I like it better than the one I have, although I still like mine.

Wenger Yukon Computer BAg
The computer bag is very well constructed and provides all the features I had hoped for.

Yukon from Wenger Review
Excellent product. Fits my new 17" HP laptop very nicely as described. Very high quality. Love this case.

Wenger Yukon Computer Bag
This bag fits exactly my 17" laptop wide screen plus the power adapter and a small mouse, however, there is not more room to carry papers or a notebook. Could be perfect if it had at least a 1/2" thick zippered compartment.

The MAXXUM from SwissGear by Wenger Computer Backpack in Red.

Yeah, it's a mouthful. But this pack has plenty of room for it all. And it makes shouldering an uncomfortable burden -- well -- comfortable!

How did I come to own such a remarkable portable storage containment unit? It took a tragedy, followed by a debacle, to result in such a fortuitous acquisition. Get uncomfortable, this won't take too long:

Many moons ago, I bought my first laptop. Soon after, I bought my first laptop bag. Even though my first laptop wouldn't actually fit in the padded compartment of that first laptop bag (I had to carry it in the unprotected "book" portion), I really loved that bag. My wife used it for many years and recently I inherited it back (after re-joining the ranks of laptop-owners).

It was a great bag. We buried it out back where we'd planned on laying the dog to rest. But now that we're considering stuffing her instead, it seemed fitting. I mean, that bag was part of the family! As soon as one of the shoulder straps started getting thread-bare, I knew the time was drawing near. It was like seeing arthritis creep up on a beloved pet. One of the double-zippers went next, like a liver failing. It was just the track at first, which could be worked around, but the stitching soon followed. Too many systems were giving out at once to consider repairing the thing. It would have taken more money to give it another healthy year and my wife consoled me. "We're still young," she said. "We can get another."

That was the tragedy. Here comes the debacle: I went to Walmart for my new bag. Now, I don't want to start a political debate, which shopping at Walmart inevitably leads to for some reason, but unlike the people that hate Walmart, I can't afford to shop anywhere else. Actually, that's inaccurate. The truth is: I can't afford to shop. Period. So doing it at Walmart seems like the least financially ruinous mistake.

I'm in the computer section of Walmart and there's a great selection of three computer bags. Excellent. No time wasted maximizing, I grab the only one meant to wear on your back, which was the only feature I desired, and I really liked seeing the price. The thing was under . Recently "Rolled Back," if you can believe it.

The debacle came at the register, when the thing rang up for just over . I felt trapped. The lady was looking at me, palm up, and expecting payment. I woulda felt dumb saying, "Uh, I don't have that kinda money." To which she would reply, "Well then, why'd you pick it out?" And my retort would be, "Dave in electronics misshelved it." But I'm a martyr. I don't want Dave in trouble, so I gave her the plastic and winced as it actually went through. (stupid credit card companies, they never reject you when you really need it)

The entire drive home, I shot glances at the stupid over-priced backpack. I was steamed. The thing was made by HP, which I liked at first because my laptop was made by HP (and cost about the same amount!). Now, though, I saw it as expensive advertisement. "I'll be damned," I thought, planning on cutting that patch off as soon as I got home. Then I saw the tag hanging off a strap and realized: Walmart has a great return policy. Let's go home and do some comparison shopping.

Now that my budget for a bag had doubled, I had some room to work with. I found, on Amazon, the MAXXUM from SwissGear by Wegner Computer Backpack in Red. (I looked at the one in blue, but it was more! I suppose I have the decline of the Republican party to thank!).

For less money (but more than I had originally planned on spending) I bought the best bag I have ever owned. Ever. Even my wife is jealous (and eying a blue one). The bag has an external compartment for books so you can grab your reading material without messing with zippers. It has lots of pouches, great access to the front "pen" spot, zippers on the sides and elasti-thingies for water bottles. Up top, there's a shallow pouch with a zipper that serves as my "man purse." You can put an MP3 player in there (for those of you that own one) and there's a hole to bring the earbuds through.

The best part is the straps and padded back. This thing is COMFORTABLE. It just jounces along happily, even with a heavy load. And it looks sexy, did I mention that? I felt smart and attractive in this thing. I wore it across a college campus yesterday (for testing purposes) and it made me feel like going into a class. Any class. And learning something.

I swear to the gods of consumerism, this bag makes me want to go back to school. That's how unbelievably, flankin', nebularly awesome it is.

So, if you have a bag that's pushing 80 in bag-years. If it's slouching or riding to one side or has a zipper jumping the tracks. Do yourself a favor. For less than you can own the greatest laptop bag ever made. Get yourself a MAXXUM by SwissGear from Wenger Computer Backpack.

Mostly Good Pack, Bad Stitching
I Bought this two years ago and though I was concerned on unpacking it to find that SwissGear was actually ChinaGear, it looked well made and a bargain at the price. My concern stemmed from my experience that EVERY tool made in China that I have owned has failed in a few years. This in spite of the fact that almost all my tools manufactured in the USA, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Taiwan and most other countries are still working fine and many are decades old. Well in the first few months the internal buckle of the laptop pouch fell apart. Not a big deal as I did not like it because it was a bulge immediately next to the laptop and appeared to have the potential of doing it damage. Within six months the stitching of the shoulder straps unraveled, then the stitching of the zippers also started to fail. Zippers need immediate attention as small items my be lost. I believe my use has been moderate and I did not over-stuff the backpack so I consider these failures (within a year) to be manufacturing defects. Other than the stitching and unwanted buckle the pack has held up well. Perhaps this unraveling is an uncommon problem. I only noticed one other mention of it in the reviews, but if you buy this pack you may need to do some sewing because the 30 day return period will have passed.

I am looking for a new laptop backpack (one with some back support) and that will last more than a year without constant mending. If you have any suggestions, please let me know with a comment.

Fits 16'' laptop
Has serviced me for 2+ years and still works. Also, fits HP HDX 16, which is a 16'' laptop, so it will definitely fit your 15.4'' laptops.

perfect
This bag is perfect for my new laptop. It's very comfortable and lots of space for everything in the separate compartments.

Swissgear/Wenger Computer Laptop Backpack (Red): One Very Fine Product!
I have just purchased this Swissgear Wenger Maxxum model (available in red, in blue and in gray {but not currently available in gray} currently available at $ 48.49 shipped) as well as the Swissgear SA9735 backpack (Royal blue at .95 shipped and now .95(!) and also produced in Gray/black, but not currently available) and finally the SA9715 (Black/gray and also available in several other color combinations, but with the same overall design at .95 shipped and now .95!). By far the Maxxum is the superior backpack of these three computer laptop/notebook bags for protection of your valuable laptop computer which is after all the primary purpose of these items, but each of the other two bags also have their advantages too.

SA9715 (fits MOST 15.4 inch laptops)- Good light and long bag (~3 lbs), with an ok carrying handle and with only limited storage in two large bins (one for the laptop with velcro seals which was not a lot of protection in my opinion- you would probably benefit from a neoprene computer sleeve for better overall protection). Carrying heavy loads was far better for me with this bag than with the SA9735 discussed below even without a chest or hip belt. It doesn't stand vertically very well for packing purposes however.

SA9735 (fits MOST 15.4 inch laptops)- A better bag (~4 lbs), with a good carrying handle and with only one additional large zippered storage area, but with a better plastic snap for improved securing of your laptop). Carrying a lot of weight was definitely an issue for me with this bag however even with its 22+ pockets, but no chest or hip belt- contrary to the picture for the Maxxum/Synergy/Pegasus style laptop put there incorrectly by a laptop purchaser on Amazon! It also has some difficulty standing vertically when packed.

Swissgear Wenger Maxxum (fits MOST 15.4 inch laptops)- The very very best of these three bags by far (4 lbs, 3 ounces), but heavier/heftier. but with a very strong reinforced carrying handle placed centrally at the top of the bag for balance (and a trolley handle too at the very back of the top of the bag to boot!) and a fine heavy plastic support for your laptop (and their Comp-U-Flex support system for keeping a laptop off the bottom of the bag when it is put down or even when carried) and better placement of the computer away from your back with better back support too for carrying very heavy loads. It is quite heavy to lift, but very light to carry in my opinion. It does come with a chest belt (but not with a hip belt however) that is not placed low enough on the carrying supports, but at least the tension imposed on your chest can be readily adjusted. It has a fine base stabilizing platform and easily stands to be packed too. It also has a very large central zipped pocket, an ipod/mp3/mp4/radio pouch (zippered) and an no-zipper Kangaroo pouch for rapid storage and removal of a camera, a jacket, etc. and almost anything else that you might want in a computer laptop backpack.

Someone however desperately needs to organize all of these Swissgear products by their SA number and not by their color because you simply can't rely on either the selling price or on the MSRP (price as suggested from the manufacturer) as an indicator for the best quality bags available and for what specific purpose they are needed (size of the laptop that will definitely fit in each bag, waterproof ability, durability, dimensions of the bag itself (L X W X H), belt supports, colors available, etc.). In addition, a number of customers have posted incorrect and multiple photos with these bags which makes it equally tough to make a good decision without reading a very large number of detailed reviews for the same bag, but available only in different colors and thus which are listed in multiple and quite separate reviews! Some of these listings do not always come up in Amazon's search engine each time either depending on their current availability (by color again!) from the manufacturer and their relative sales ranking which can change hourly!

For example by reading and comparing information on Amazon with the Wengerna website you will find that the only major difference of the Maxxum as compared to the Synergy backpack model is an extra volume of 18" by 1 " and of course slightly different pocket dimensions and overall shape designs. Someone (at Swissgear/Wenger?) definitely needs to rank all these Swissgear backpack models systematically with their properties and a correct photo so that the buying public can make more informed choices without having to buy 3 bags to find one that will do the job that you want done!

I purchased this bag for my 15.4" widescreen laptop because I wanted to be able to fit the power cord in the bag next to my computer. The power cord and my computer fit snugly next to each other inside the bag. I really like the power cord pouch that comes with the bag. It's very useful. The bag has lots of compartments and PLENTY of extra room when holding a 15.4" laptop. The bag is very high quality. I recommend this product.

SATURN SwissGear by Wenger Computer Messenger Bag

I purchased this messenger bag after returning two L.L.Bean laptop backpack bags (quality has gone way down in their bags since I was a kid). I used to own a Wenger Patriot (rolling computer case with seperate laptop case) but found it too big for my needs. However, I always remembered how durable it was, which lead me to look for a Wenger product.

This messenger bag has quality stitching, a reinforced handle, solid construction, and it is very stylish. I most definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a lightweight laptop case, as it does fit the newer 17-inch screen sizes. It has a partitioned file compartment behind the laptop compartment and extra storage in the front area for accessories and supplies. It also has a pocket in the back for magazine-sized items, as well as a small pocket in the front, enough to hold your keys, iPod and whatever else you can fit into it.

Simply 5-stars across the board.

COMET from Wenger Double Gusset Computer Bag

I searched all over for a laptop case that would give me the option of securing my laptop without just sliding it in, but found that all of them were poorly made or had no side-pockets. I'm a college student and I take my laptop everywhere I go, along with notebooks and textbooks. This sturdy bag can carry it all. The outside pocket is great for organizing pens, calculators, PDAs, cell phones, etc. The only gripe I have is that, while the strap is adjustable, it could be better. I would like it if I could make the strap be longer than the maximum length. It also should be removable if you want to carry the case extensively briefcase-style.
Overall great bag that will perform well and protect your investment nicely.

An Excellent Computer Bag
This is a versatile and capacious computer bag. About my only knock is that the Velcro closure system for the foldover side panel needs, well, more Velcro, something I've added on my own. The bag holds a laptop, all the electronic accoutrements of business travel, plus papers, magazines, etc. I had one stolen, and replaced it with the exact same bag.

Awesome Bag!
This bag is great for anyone who needs to carry a laptop plus business files. It has lots of pockets and feels very durable. Thick padding for the laptop keeps it safe. You can open you laptop without removing it from the bag! I would recommend this bag to anyone!

Safe and secure comes with its drawbacks
I recently bought this for my Macbook Pro, and let me just say it's huge and heavy. However, my Macbook Pro is very secure and seems near invincible in it. It has more pockets and zippers than I knew what to do with, but now I've filled them all out nicely and have room for everything. I usually care some work books, my power adapter, 360 controller, and all kinds of stuff.

Overall, I'm very satisfied in its build quality, I just wasn't expecting it to be so bulky.

Very practical and useful, but not perfect
Essentially, the bag has all the compartments you would want in a professional laptop bag. It has the document organizer, space for all electronics, and the great padding for the actual laptop. However, all of this convenience does not come with a price. All of the features makes the bag a bit heavier and bulkier then most. So if you're looking for something much more portable or easier to manage, I would suggest something else. However, if accommodation and utility are what you're looking for then this bag is perfect.

I like this bag. The only thing I didn't like about it was the middle section had an extra piece of cardboard as a divider, which could be good if you were hauling lots of files that you wanted to keep organized. I am a high school teacher and bought mine for a laptop and needed that extra wide space to cart around my charger, portable scanner, LAN cable etc. so I grabbed my seam ripper and just removed it, no big deal. I like that the handle can be pulled out farther than most and has a contour, so it doesn't feel cheep. The price was good for this bag compared to buying locally. Free shipping and no tax. I've only had it for two months and so far so good.

Awesome Mobile Office
I have used this case for several weeks now both for buisness trips and for my home office. I am very pleased. I can take "my whole office" in the larger case but when I just need my computer I pull out the smaller bag and leave the rest in the car.

Not bad for the price
I recently purchased the bag and I like it so far. I was considering the TravelPro but I just could not justify the price. It contains much room for everything but just good enough for one night travel. It will not have enough space for a sweater or anything heavy like that unless you carry the comupter case by it self. All and all I like its design and price and I do recommend it because it saves me carrying a extra bad for clothes for those one nighters.

Wenger Granada Rolling Case Blk Nylon Fits Up To 17IN Notebooks

I purchased this case about a year ago. It was a touch smaller than most of the other rolling cases, and that has been important because it will fit under most (not all) airplane seats. The larger laptop cases won't do that, which was why I was still using a shoulder-carry laptop case up to that point. Now I wouldn't go back. I use it daily for both office and travel. This Wenger has proven to be sturdy - especially the handle assembly. It fits a 17" laptop easily. My wife finally got tired of her larger rolling laptop case and just appropriated my Wenger, so I'm getting another one for myself.

This is an awesome bag!
I have been looking for a rolling bag for quite some time. I purchased a Targus bag on line sight unseen. While it was a great bag the thing was huge! People always asked me if I was traveling when I took it to the office. I have even tried to give that one away but to no avail. I spotted this bag in one of those big box office supply stores. I compared it to others that were in the store and it seemed to fit the bill. My Laptop would fit, it had ample additional storage without being of gargantuan proportions. I use this bag everyday and so far it holding up.

Great Rolling Briefcase and Laptop Case
Great construction. Sturdy zippers, wheels and handle extends easily and is tall enough to not have to bend over for a person that is 6'. Will accomodate up to a 17" laptop. Lots of storage for files, etc.
