I owned one of these in high school and absolutely loved it. I'm in grad school now, and since I've once again found that I have too many books to carry by hand, I chose to return to the tried and true Synergy bag. Although overall the bag is still good, there have been some changes that I'm not that thrilled about.
First, I could have sworn that the model I had originally was roomier. It accommodated my 17" notebook with relative ease, and I'm not sure if this one could do that. Also, the notebook pocket has been changed from a nice gray to a loud and gaudy red, and the neat buckle that once secured the laptop has been replaced with cheap velcro.
There's also a stabilizer thing that sits in the floor of the middle pocket to help the bag stand up it's own. While the bag's ability to do this is great, I'm not sure the old model had this thing which is rather obtrusive and tends to stick up when not held down by books. I think what Swissgear has done is decreased the size of the main computer compartment and enlarged the middle compartment, which required them to insert the stabilizer so the bag would retain it's ability to stand on it's own.
These changes, along with the fact that this bag just doesn't seem as roomy as the original, have left me slightly disappointed with my purchase. It's still a fantastic bag, and it only falls short when compared to the perfection of the older model. Anyone who can source me an unused older model, PEASE feel free to contact me.

Customer Reviews

Great backpack for the student / professional
This backpack seriously has an enormous amount of storage space. There are many pockets, and yet the backpack itself looks streamlined. The zippers look like good quality zippers, although they are not metal. One thing I really like about the SYNERGY is the framework support that allows the backpack to stand upright. You would think that such a backpack would be heavy, but it's actually quite light. Very happy with my purchase. If SwissGear puts out more products like this, I'll definitely be buying more of their stuff.

Sturdy With Lots Of Pockets
Top quality all around. The materials, zippers--all excellent. There is a nice protected small pouch at the top for a smaller item like a small camera, which protects that item as well. Looks good too. Highly recommended!

Very good bag with enough pockets
I don't easily write reviews, but I thought after owning this bag for more than 3 years I owe to this bag a review!
Exceptionally good. Still no problems.
Very sturdy [no problem with rough use], carries heavy load when I require it sometimes, dark so you don't have to clean it often [or at all]
Also enough packets for me to store all I want, that too into their proper categories like computer, book, bottles, smart cards, tokens, passport/tickets, phone, purse etc.
And most importantly for a laptop bag, it does its job very well.
If you are a guy, you won't go wrong buying this. It has that masculine look as well.
So obviously not very good for girls [in terms of style only - functionality wise it would be still perfect].

Awesome Laptop Backpack
I commute to work on a motorcycle on a daily basis. I'm able to carry my laptop, lunch, water bottle and other misc stuff. There's all kinds of other small compartments to carry other things like cell phones or whatever you like. I like the handle on top that has a steel cable going through for support My wife recently got a new job that allows her to telecommute to work 3 days a week and needed a backpack to carry her laptop as well. She wanted a different color bag or style so we didn't get our bags messed up but still liked my backpack the best so my wife decided to get the same backpack and just tie a ribbon on hers.
